NEON-orama! Engagement Elopement Photography at the Neon Museum Boneyard in Las Vegas, The Fremont, The Strip

April 28, 2014 | By | No Comments

Thinking about Neon Signs? What says “Las Vegas” more than a museum full of neon signs from Las Vegas’ past? Did you know that there is also a “mini-neon museum” down on the Fremont Street Experience? And of course, The Strip is chock full-o-neon everywhere you look.

This post is about neon, neon, neon. In this post I mean to give the newcomer an idea of what sort of neon and neon sign options are available when hiring a Vegas photographer for an elopement, a wedding ceremony, or just ‘cuz you want some neon in your life!

Was There a Wedding at that Wedding? DETAILS Part 1 – Tables and Place Settings

April 28, 2014 | By | No Comments

If you only looked at some high-end wedding blogs, you might think that people were not allowed at weddings – only things LOL.

When wedding photography legend Cliff Mautner asked “Was there a wedding at that wedding?”, the WPPI conference room full of photographers I was sitting in erupted in laughter and applause.

We laughed because we knew that he was referring to the many wedding photography blogs that seem to only show photos of THINGS – linens, wedding dresses, shoes, rings, invitations, place settings, chair covers, etc. “But where’s the people?!” we’re all thinking. LOL

We laughed because we know that, to get featured on many of these top wedding & wedding planner blogs (e.g.,  Style Me Pretty100 Layer Cake, Polka dot bride), we must show lots of things.

If you’ve looked at my blog and portfolio you may have noticed that I mostly show photos of people. It’s not because I don’t take photos of things. It’s because photos of people are so much more important.

I show photos of people smiling, people laughing, people crying, people dancing, people hugging, people getting married, people in love.

I feature people because, over time, photos of people matter much more than photos of things.

Don’t get me wrong. Wedding detail photos are very important. And mine are very good.

It’s just that photos of people are the photos that literally become more valuable every day, photos of people at your wedding will literally one day become priceless.

So, I wouldn’t blame you, dear reader, if you thought by looking at my work that I don’t photograph things.

But, in fact, I do shoot things! So, to prove that I (and the very talented 2nd photographers I get to work with) do shoot things at every wedding, I’m kicking off the series “Was There a Wedding at that Wedding” with “Details Part 1 – Tables and Place Settings“.

Why are some of the best Las Vegas Elopements down on Fremont Street Old Las Vegas?

April 27, 2014 | By | No Comments

We’ve photographed some of the best Las Vegas Elopement shoots all over Vegas: The Strip, Eldorado Canyon / Nelson, Spring Mountain Ranch Nevada State Park, Valley of Fire Nevada State Park, Dry Lake Beds. But one of our very favorite places is downtown Las Vegas, Old Vegas, the Fremont Street area. Why? you ask? ‘Cuz it’s chock-full-‘o NEON, vintage style, old-skool bars, brilliant street art and graffiti, friendly restaurants and security.

If you can handle some drunken rowdiness, some loud music, lots of high-energy night people, and the regular shouts of “congratulations!” from perfect strangers, Fremont East may be the perfect place to shoot your elopement. Nothing says Vegas like Fremont East, Old Downtown Vegas.

Build a Wedding Portfolio without the Wedding

Build a Wedding Portfolio without the Wedding

Documenting a dream(ed up) wedding

Most people end up following a certain path when they take up photography. Most begin with taking photographs of inanimate objects, trying to gain insight into how best to compose their photos, finding a style that they can call their own. Soon, they delve into taking portraits, and experiment with post-processing the photographs they take in order to bring out the absolute best in them. Pretty soon, would-be photographers begin to look into covering live events, and weddings are often on the top of their list.
But as any wedding photographer will tell you, the market has become quite congested, and booking a client can be quite difficult, especially if you’re new to the business. Most clients look for photographers who have an extensive portfolio, and ironically enough, most photographers struggle to build their portfolios because they can’t snag enough clients.
But if you’re thinking of coming into the wedding industry, you can build a portfolio of your wedding-related work by simply simulating some of the elements of the wedding. It’s important to focus on the things that you would be photographing if you were to be hired, such as the flowers, the gown, and the wedding cake.

Recreating a Wedding, Step 1: The Charming Couple

One of the most important aspects of wedding photography is being able to capture the emotions on the couple’s special day. In this case, instead of recreating a wedding, you could start off by showing examples of a prenuptial shoot. Read More

Las Vegas Photographers Brett & Jizelle PHOTO THIEVES attempt to Silence any who expose their thievery via threat of Defamation lawsuit

April 16, 2014 | By | 2 Comments

I just received a cease & desist letter from an attorney who says that he represents Brett & Jizelle Photography, Brett Baughman, Jizelle Ashley, and The Brett Baughman Companies. I have posted the letter below in full.

The issue at hand is photo theft and copyright infringement. Sadly, it is shockingly common for unscrupulous “fauxtographers” to steal the photos of actual working photographers, and then to try to pass those stolen photos off as their own.

The photography community is very lucky to benefit from the tireless efforts of Corey Doyle Balazowich, an excellent real photographer, who meticulously documents the nefarious work of fauxtographers before they have a chance to take down (and deny) their thievery.

Her website “Stop Stealing Photos” is a “wall of shame [that] is dedicated to photographers that feel that it’s okay to steal others work and post it as their own.” Read More
