Another great couple elope to Las Vegas DTLV East Fremont

July 20, 2017 | By | No Comments

Another great couple elope to Las Vegas DTLV East Fremont. Actually they were already married. For 25 years!

Wearing her original dress from their wedding 25 years ago (haught!) Tamara and Richard came all the way from Spokane *without the crumb snatchers* for a true vacation in Vegas. They wanted to celebrate their anniversary with a sexy fun photo shoot in DTLV. They are so chill, so fun, so easy to be with. Thank you guys for honoring me with the opportunity to document such a great anniversary!

Fabulous fun Canadian couple elope to Las Vegas to get married on the Dry Lake Bed Playa then do a photo shoot at the Neon Museum DTLV and the Atomic Liquors

This fabulous fun Canadian couple eloped to Las Vegas to get married on the Dry Lake Bed Playa. We then did a GREAT photo shoot at the Neon Museum in DTLV and the Atomic Liquors.

These guys came into Vegas smiling and didn’t stop the whole time I was with them. There’s gotta be something in the water or something up there, but Canadians are just the coolest people. We had fun from the minute they pulled up to the dry lake bed in their limo, through the Neon Boneyard and on to DTLV and Atomic Liquors. These guys put in the time and we got great moment after moment. Thanks for letting me document your Vegas elopement guys! You’re gorgeous!

A Las Vegas Strip Wedding at Treasure Island and The Ritz Venue

April 3, 2017 | By | No Comments

This is my long-winded post about A Las Vegas Strip Wedding at Treasure Island and The Ritz Venue with the very special Elizabeth and Christopher.

OMG so much to say about this amazing wedding! But it’s 5:30am and I really should be gettin’ to bed, but I have to take care to back up my bride’s images first ….

….so as I was sayin’… this wedding was kind of off the hook, in part because our beautiful brilliant bride married a *DJ* who knows lots of other DJs, and who got every VIP favor one could ever hope for at the incredibly accommodating Treasure Island, where our DJ Groom Christoper spins discs and spreads good cheer and happiness. Our beautiful brilliant PhD bride, no doubt, also attended to the million lovely details this couple shared with their many guests.

Put aside the dresses and the shoes and the florals – all so elegant and tasteful – and jump right to the perfect reception at The Ritz. There were maps and travel cases representing their globe trotting. The travel theme was carried throughout the reception hall, in details like the greenscreen OS Photo booths background, and the travel-themed table tents at each table.

The energy and thumping dancing partying pulse of this ceremony never let up right up to the last second. Did I mention that the groom is a DJ and he invited a bunch of his DJ friends who kept things pumping all reception long? The music was truly great and the dance floor was usually packed.

So many details! So well thought out! These guys invited a caricature sketch artist, there was an open bar, at the beginning of the reception there was a live musician, there was a delicious buffet, an ice sculpture, an area with comfortably elegant lounges and sofas, a bone-white tree that was more art than plant, and on it went.

And I’ve barely mentioned how much TIME they gave me to make great portraits with them! A photographer’s dream!! Elizabeth was a photographer for many years before she got smart and decided that having a regular income as a pharmacist might be neat. So, as much as almost any client I’ve ever had, these guys really appreciated the importance of photography and they gave me at least 90 minutes between the ceremony and reception, a luxury I am so grateful for.

They also had MAD ACCESS to one of the major casinos on The Strip. Of about 400 weddings I’ve shot I’ve never had access that comes close to the VIP treatment Christopher arranged for us. Rather than the usual experience of getting chased out of a Strip casino within moments of breaking out professional lighting gear, we were escorted by very large security guys wherever we went. And we went wherever we wanted to went. Actually we had wented everywhere a week before in our walk-through, so our wenting was well planned. And escorted by very large men with wound cords connected to their ears. Like I said, a photographer’s dream.

Thank you Elizabeth and Chris – for entrusting me with such an important event in your lives, and for the VIP access.

Las Vegas Wedding at The Revere Golf Club – Melissa and Tony

February 3, 2017 | By | No Comments

Two of the greatest people brought their families together in this ideal location in the hills overlooking Las Vegas, the premiere golf resort of Revere in Henderson. This was one of the most spiritual weddings I have ever had the privilege to document, with two of the finest people I’ve met. Congratulations to Melissa and Tony!

Las Vegas Wedding of Jennifer and Andrew at Wedgewood Stallion Mt

January 27, 2017 | By | No Comments

Jennifer and Andrew came in from Seattle – seemingly bringing much of Amazon’s staff with them – to pledge their forever commitment to each other and to join their soulful supportive families together. Wedgewood is surprisingly green for the Mojave Desert, near great western mountains, and it’s very accustomed to hosting beautiful weddings. If you’re looking to bring everyone to Vegas for the convenience, and you want a place that’s off The Strip and not as zany as The Strip, a place that’s green and cool and calm, then Wedgewood is an excellent choice.

I have a confession to make.

I love your images. Possibly too much.

Even though I’m known for professionally lit, clean, poppy, magazine style images with no Photoshop Sauce™ I still spend a lot of time making them perfect. Probably too much time. Which means sometimes my clients don’t get their images as fast as they’d like. Here’s how much I love your images.

THE MANY WAYS I SHOW LOVE TO YOUR IMAGES

I deliver your photos to you only after each one has been carefully, lovingly hand-tweaked by the photographer or by a skilled digital artist to look their very best. Like a mom who won’t let the little ones leave the house with shirt un-tucked and a dirty face, I do not release my (your) photos until I’ve given them LIGHT EDITING in Adobe Lightroom. Each photo is hand adjusted in some or all of the following settings before I gently hand my babies over to you:

  • Color Temperature
  • Exposure
  • Contrast
  • Highlights
  • Shadows
  • Whites
  • Blacks
  • Clarity
  • Vibrance
  • Tone Curve
  • Luminance
  • Noise Reduction
  • Vignetting
  • Spot Removal

Sometimes, I even take your images into Photoshop for DEEP EDITING, like removing lighting structures and distractions.

Another confession: I don’t always make perfect images right in camera. Usually I get very close. Sometimes complexions etc require intervention. Sometimes I intentionally shoot with stuff in the frame that I plan to remove later. And sometimes, I kind of blow it and a great image is over- or under-exposed, hidden in my mediocrity and needs to be resurrected in post. But that’s seriously uncommon.

In the examples below I show editing differences that are quite small (the ones I pretty much nailed in-camera), all the way to ones intentionally cluttered or even oddly exposed with the vision of the end-photo in mind. I’m even including images from some of the outstanding Associate Photographers who shoot for STEVEN JOSEPH PHOTOGRAPHY, who also shoot deliberately and with intention, and give each of your babies the TLC they deserve (Toning, Lightroom, and Cropping).  🙂
