Las Vegas Elopement Spring Mountain Ranch

April 18, 2013 | By | One Comment

While we love shooting at Spring Mountain Ranch Nevada State Park for its unmatched natural beauty, we cannot at this time recommend that anybody get married there because of the serious personnel problems they are currently experiencing. Many photographers have reported being harassed, intimidated, even shaken down by some of the Rangers working at Spring Mountain Ranch (SMR) while working with couples, families, and even full wedding parties. Shocking and hard to believe, but true. The photography community is trying to work with the management of the Nevada State Park system to get some relief, and to transform SMR into the kind of vibrant, busy, revenue-generating venue we know it can become, one that welcomes professional photography, and that conducts weddings with professionalism and respect.

Las Vegas Elopement Photography – Elise & Jeremy Climb to a Higher Level. The Dry Lake Bed & Nelson Ghost Town

March 24, 2013 | By | No Comments

These guys are so freaking CUTE and meant-for-each-other. Elise and Jeremy – true-to-the-core Old Skool rock climbers (we’re talking 15 pitch-type climbers 0_o) – climbed to new heights last week in their Las Vegas elopement. After tying the knot (ahem) in a simple civil ceremony, we met up at the dry lake bed about 45 minutes outside of Vegas for some mega gorgeous magazine-style lighted portraits. We then traversed southeast to the photographically fabulous and friendly Nelson Ghost Town (aka Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours, Nelson’s Landing, and “that place where they blew up the airplane for that Elvis movie”)

One of the reasons your photos look so awesome is because we bring studio lighting with us on-site. You *pop* from the background. And we take care of editing our lights out of your beautiful photos.

If James Bond got Married Again ….

February 4, 2013 | By | 6 Comments

If James Bond got married again, I think it’d look pretty much like this. His stunningly beautiful bride draped in her elegant wedding gown. He – the dashing groom in his classically cut tuxedo – would probably get prepped at the elegant and luxurious Mandalay Bay, then segue to a dignified ceremony at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. With his charm and confidence he’d get us into places not often opened up to wedding couples with photographers in tow – like the officially closed private beach bungalow area at Mandalay Bay. And at the end of the night we’d all end up on top of the world – 60 floors up – in the richly sophisticated Foundation Room inside of Mandalay Bay, with the best views of the Las Vegas Strip in the whole world.

Answer: Yes. Question: Does skillful off-camera lighting make a difference?

January 26, 2013 | By | No Comments

Does skillful use of off-camera lighting matter in photography? Sometimes, when the available light is great, it’s not much of a factor at all. But other times, off-camera lighting makes the shot.

When looking at my bridal party, this is what I see.

Available Light Photography Las Vegas Wedding PhotographersThis is what normal people see. This is what you and your venue look like with off-camera lighting. This is what you and your venue look like in available light.Normal.Lighted.

We love available light photography and use it all the time, when the available light is good. But often the light professional photographers can make is better.

Why Feeding the Photographer First Is Better for Bride and Groom

January 11, 2013 | By | No Comments

Las Vegas Wedding Photographers Steven Joseph Photo - Feeding the Photographer FirstAt weddings there is a long tradition of feeding the vendors last. There are probably lots of good reasons for this wedding protocol and tradition, but I want to make the case for why it’s best for the bride & groom if the photographer is fed at the very beginning of dinner service, immediately after the b&g themselves begin to eat.

1. How many photos do you want of yourself & your guests chewing your food?

If the photographer is shooting throughout dinner service, there’s not much to shoot other than people eating. How many photos do you want of yourself & your guests chewing your food? Not a great look!

2. You want your photographer focused on what you are doing (except for when you’re chewing food) when you’re doing it.

This is the most important reason to feed the photographer early. As soon as dinner service is over, everything picks up very quickly. It’s better for you – the bride & groom – if your photographer is locked & loaded, ready to capture the flurry of activity that follows dinner service. It’s not so good for you if the photographer has just begun eating as your wedding moves back into high gear.

Instead of inhaling a cold plate as fast as humanly possible after you & all your guests are finished eating, your photographer should be fed, locked loaded & ready to photograph you:

  • walking table-to-table visiting with friends & family
  • listening to the beginning of toasts
  • feeling radiant in the first moments of your first dance
