For the last several years I have been fortunate enough to be invited by my friend Jamey Kirkland to shoot event photography for one of the largest jewelry shows in the world, #JCKLasVegas. I believe this was the 25th year of the show.

Event photography is a lot like a wedding with a wide variety of subjects and radically different lighting conditions throughout the day, but with more walking.

Lots more walking.

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino has 2.1 million square feet of meeting and exhibit space, and I’m pretty sure that the #JCKLasVegas Jewelry Convention at Mandalay Bay uses every square inch.

Did I mention it involves a lot of walking? According to his fitbit, Jamey walked 11 miles per day every day for one week at #JCKLasVegas2016. I only walked 5 or 6 miles per day at #JCKLasVegas2017, or about 30 miles this past week.

What are indoor environmental headshots?

The popular environmental look is where headshots are made outdoors in a park or against trees or through a window looking out on a pretty scene.

We have innovated a way to bring any outdoor scene right to your booth. Our indoor environmental backdrops look incredibly realistic and gorgeous.

Because convention centers are some of the largest buildings in the world, where it can take 30 minutes just to walk outside or to a window, outdoor environmental photos are not practical.

The solution I offer my corporate clients is that we create a beautiful environment indoors! My client gets to choose the “environment”, be it a brightly lit modern office conference room, or looking out a “window” to bright green vegetation, or a low-key familiar skyline at night.

NOT GREENSCREEN

We do this without green screen and all of its problems: greenscreen murders hair, it just doesn’t look right, it requires lots of post production with a computer, and God forbid somebody is wearing green!

We use a different method, an elegant method, that results in a gorgeous look right in camera. The client can walk up to the camera or tethered computer right after their photo is taken and say things like “OMG that’s the best headshot I’ve ever gotten” or “Wow that looks so realistic and the lighting on me is fantastic” or “You’re a magician”. [Actual quotes.]

We can get through 100-150 people per day, per photo bay. My team can scale up to as many photo bays as needed to serve any size audience. Each person sits for an average of 2.5 minutes. It’s really easy for your people. It’s usually a lot of fun. Almost everyone walks away loving their new headshot. And the sponsoring company looks like heroes.

Commercial Portraits for Reality TV Show “The Big Gun II – Sin City” on the Sportsman Channel

Recently I was asked to make professional portraits for the world-class athletes and competitors of The Big Gun II – Sin City, a reality TV show on the Sportsman Channel.

Brian Speciale, Producer and Creator of the show, wanted some professional portraits of the 12 athletes competing in “Shooting’s Ultimate Competition – The Big Gun II – Sin City” that he could use within the show and to promote it on social media.

Shooters are very familiar with the names of these world-class athletes, including world famous “fastest shooter of all time” Jerry Miculek and his daughter Lina Miculek. JJ Racaza, Tim Yackley, Max Michel, Ryan Muller, Becky Yackley, Shane Coley, Jesse Tischauser, Hunter “Nubbs” Cayll, Wyatt Gibson, Michael Whitesides.

Brian had me come by the day before the actual contest started, and we spent the day dodging the rain making cool portraits and doing video interviews in anticipation of the contest. All of these folks were salt-of-the-earth great people, super safe and ridiculously aware of gun safety, and lots of fun to be around.

Environmental headshots are all the rage, even for very large corporations. They look so fresh and contemporary. However they can come with a lot of hassle.

One of the largest companies in the world came to Las Vegas this week and their executives wanted environmental headshots, without the hassle, discomfort and risk of wind and dust and rain and heat and perspiration and a long walk. No problem. So I created “outdoor” environmental headshots right in the comfort of a hotel conference room.

Corporate & Casual Headshots On Location – Las Vegas

What a perfect time to get high-quality headshots for all of your key people, while you’ve got them all in the same place. Or what a great way to reward your contractors or members who are out in the trenches with the opportunity to get a top-notch headshot for their website, their Linked-In profile, or other social media avatars like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

We come to your location, to the hotel where your conference is being held, where we set up studio lighting in a surprisingly small space – we need about 8 feet wide by about 10 feet deep.

You decide on your preferred style of headshot: high-key, low-key, or environmental.

We can set up as many bays as necessary to comfortably accommodate as many people as you want. Figure on about 75 – 100 people‘s headshots created per photo bay in a non-stop, all-day scheduled approach. Fewer per bay in a less structured format (e.g., people popping in at their convenience).

We produce between 5 and 15 photos per person in about 3.5 minutes, assuring we’ve gotten your guests’ best side, best look, best expression.

We can even live-stream the photos as they are being made to tablets and iPads where people can select their favorite right after it is created, streamlining the post-processing edit. All photos are lightly edited before upload. Advanced professional re-touching is an available add-on.
