Jolene and Darcy at the verdant JWMarriott

April 6, 2012 | By | No Comments

How fortunate am I to be the guy entrusted with recording the countless magic moments that take place on your wedding day?! The excitement of getting ready, the anticipation of first sight, the emotions of the public ceremony – committing for life in front of family and friends forever, the relief of post-ceremony portraits, and the joy and happiness of the toasts and dances and party. What a way to make a living, right?

I love this final portrait of Jolene and Darcy, clearly exhausted yet looking great after their giant day. They had hired me to stay an extra hour and a half because things were running a little late. I’m SO glad they asked me to stay a little as we got some of the best shots, and best emotions of the day, in that final hour.

The beginning of the day started out pretty awesome, too! Check out the beautiful bride coming down the aisle with mom and dad. Radiant!

Elvis just happened to be out at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, and Darcy’s best men kept slipping him cash to let us do some fun shots on his awesome pink 56 Cadillac. Very Vegas baby! We’re lucky enough to have one of Frank Gehry’s extraordinary architectural objects right here in Las Vegas – the Cleveland Clinic, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. We played all around this spectacular space. Fittingly, both Frank Gehry and my beautiful bridal party are examples of Canada’s finest.
Fixing to get back to the reception for some spirits and dancing and laughter.A quick intimate quiet shot of the lovely Jolene.Just married. Looking very fly in the lush gardens of JW Marriott in Las Vegas.I love the beautiful effects one can get using off-camera lights. And these guys are troopers for standing behind a waterfall for me! I make my couples work! ūüôāScrumptious food all over.Jolene’s mom and the little angel flower girl. Two of the three stars of the day.The three stars. This one knows she’s something special ūüôāA quiet moment during the heartfelt & eloquent toast from Jolene’s dad.Jolene’s studly dad.The groom, looking kinda fly. Just married the woman of his dreams. He’s feeling good. One of the final shots of the evening.

Cake to you, gently.

Denise & Scott at The (Verdant) Lake Club at Lake Las Vegas

January 11, 2012 | By | No Comments

Denise and Scott are one of my favorite couples ever. They celebrated their gorgeous wedding with lots of family and friends at the incomparably beautiful The Lake Club @ Lake Las Vegas.

The Lake Club is truly one of my favorite places to photograph a wedding, for so many reasons:

  • Lush, Green, Beautiful
  • Water water everywhere
  • Intimate, human-scale layout, easy to walk everywhere you need to go
  • First rate staff with tremendous experience and el√°n
  • Private, absolutely no tourists traipsing through your gorgeous wedding
  • Only 30 minutes from The Strip – yet secluded, exclusive, comfortable, quiet

Denise and Scott did a 2 hour pre-wedding shoot where all of the formals, bridals and bride and groom shoots were done. ¬†When couples choose this route, it eliminates ¬†the stress associated with wanting to hurry to get back to your guests. This is the new trend with couples. ¬†One might wonder if the thrill and excitement of “first sight” is gone but, not at all. ¬†Denise and Scott were still filled with emotion ¬†and excitement as she walked down the aisle. I highly recommend doing pre-wedding formals, for the very best portraits, and for dramatically less stress for everyone.

I LOVE the Party!!!

December 12, 2011 | By | One Comment

I LOVE the Party. If the party is rockin’, I can’t leave before it’s over. The party is joy, it is ecstasy, it is acceptable animalism, it is naughty, it is vigorous, it is up close, sweaty, emotional, sensual, sexy, it is everything we’re not supposed to be the rest of the day, the rest of the night, the rest of our lives. I LOVE the party. More party please.

A good DJ makes a big difference. And this DJ – Mike Fox – got EVERYBODY at Kylie & Alex’s wedding up and dancing and laughing. He’s one of the best DJs I’ve ever worked with.

Nicole & Phil Heating Up the Desert – Nelson’s Landing

Nicole & Phil heating up the desert. These guys are so stylin’, so sexy, so in-love. They were willing to do anything for our shoot, and so We had a really good time. Their 1956 BelAir only sexified the shoot even more.

Terrence Lighten – Las Vegas Wedding Cinematographer of the Year

December 7, 2011 | By | One Comment

True to his giving spirit, Terrence Ligthen made a behind-the-scenes video of the annual Vegas PUG shootout out at Jean Lake. The Vegas PUG is a monthly gathering of photographers in Las Vegas. We get together to share knowledge, help each other out, and have some fun. Once a year we do a hands on shoot.

This photo is a test shot of my lighting at the lighting demonstration I set up for the shootout. Terrence and his #1 man Steve took a second to pose for me.

Just so happens that Terrence & his company Lighten Films won the coveted “Wedding Cinematographer of the Year” award at last night’s Las Vegas Wedding Awards.

Thanks for modeling gentlemen, and congratulations on the big win!
