Denise & Gordon at Green Valley Ranch

April 12, 2012 | By | No Comments

How cool that I get to hang out with a bunch of tough, real, sweet, fun, loving, salt-of-the-earth Alaskans, the kind who captain fishing boats in the summer, and who do brainy stuff in the winter. I could not have asked for a more relaxed, happy, in-love family of people than these guys. These beautiful photos simply reflect the beautiful vibe that was in the air around them all night long. What an honor to photograph Denise and Gordon and their truly wonderful families. Is Green Valley Ranch one of the most beautiful, grand, elegant places you’ve seen? BTW, that’s Gordon’s brother, also captain of a fishing boat in Alaska, who is officiating their marriage. Benefit of being a captain, right? Actually he had to get a license in Vegas 🙂 but he could marry you at sea without one! 🙂A coin from Great Britain, one of several significant symbols these guys incorporated into their wedding. Mom, an American citizen, was raised in England, and integrated several cherished traditions into her daughter’s wedding.
Double Sistahs!Three generations of gorgeous!A girl could get used to lounging around 🙂 – probably not something one gets to do much in Alaska. The Walk of Anticipation, sistah style. Notice the horseshoe on Denise’s arm? Another wonderful British tradition & detail.Green Valley Ranch is an oasis in the Vegas desert.

Evelin & Reno at The Venetian

April 9, 2012 | By | No Comments

Everything about Evelin & Reno’s celebration was gorgeous. Evelin is one of the most lovely brides I’ve ever photographed. The Venetian Casino & Hotel on The Strip is elegant and richly detailed everywhere you look. The linens and floral arrangements created by Jovani Linens at Delmonico Steakhouse inside The Venetian are beyond hubba hubba gorgeous.

Evelin & Reno hired me for an arrangement unusual to much of the world, but fairly typical for Las Vegas. Couples who want elegance and convenience come to Vegas all the time, and often have their entire wedding and ceremony inside one of our magnificent casinos. For couples who want great photography, one downside to this arrangement is that all of the casinos require you to use their house photographers for the ceremony. You may get someone who is great. Or you may not. You just don’t know.

So Evelin & Reno reached outside of the in-house casino photography staff, and found me while looking through Las Vegas Bride Magazine. While I wasn’t allowed to photograph their ceremony (in fact, a big guy with a squiggly piece in his ear came *this* close to kicking me out 🙂 ) I was able to record Evelin’s getting ready, and her walk to the chapel, as well as their gorgeous, warm reception in Delmonico’s Steakhouse.

Hiring a local, full time professional photographer to supplement the casino’s in-house photography is a really good solution for the couple who want it all.

Is this place gorgeous, or what?!The cutest 2nd dress, for the reception.Their adorable daughter with her friend Nemo.Anticipation.Cayoooot!In the grand atrium, moments before entering the chapel to get married!Relief! Time to party!

Check out the amazing linens and floral arrangements by Jovani Linens and Event Design. Jovani is an artist and incredibly hard working. She is HIGHLY recommended.

11/11/11 Nicole & Phil

April 8, 2012 | By | No Comments

I was hanging out with these two stylish kids at this beautiful location on 11/11/11. Unforgettable!1956 Bel Air – stylin’Lake Las Vegas has a very Italian, not-on-the-Strip feel. This dress is *so* ready to get married. Can you believe the views, the tranquility, the *water* right here in the middle of Las Vegas? Loews at Lake Las Vegas is gorgeous.

Remember Nicole and Phil from their engagement photos down in Nelson? Well, they tied the knot on 11/11/11! Great day to get married, right? These guys had a fabulous wedding. Filled with so much love and joy. I love how much their personalities shine through with their classic car, the bride’s colorful petticoat. Fun!

Margaret & Judd – Griffin Mansion, Loews Lake Las Vegas, Desert Bridal

April 7, 2012 | By | 2 Comments

I can’t rave enough about Margaret and Judd, two of the finest people we’ve ever had the honor to photograph, and to get to know. I love that these guys scheduled dedicated time for “Trash The Dress” bride & groom portraits, several days after their wedding. It’s a great way to go, for so many reasons.

  1. It takes the pressure off on the wedding day – I don’t feel like I have to drag my couple away from their friends and family to make special portraits. Everybody’s more relaxed.
  2. We have time to do it right. In the portrait above, we drove 45 minutes to the Boulder City Dry Lake Bed, I set up some serious studio lighting, and we made gorgeous portraits I simply couldn’t make on the day of the wedding. We gave ourselves time, and the results show.
  3. In the same vein, we were able to visit multiple locations on our Trash The Dress session. In addition to the dry lake bed we spent time at the luxurious Loew’s Lake Las Vegas.

Wedding Dress by: Bridal Party Dresses by. I love the open, light-filled spaces throughout Griffin Mansions.Margaret did such an incredible job planning just about every detail. Beautiful mother and beautiful bride.Literally hours before this photo was made, this green grass was a dug-up dirt driveway, with the amazing landscaping crew furiously racing to transform the driveway into this beautiful lawn. Well done!Moments before Margaret walked out toward her new life with Judd the Stud. The beautiful bride, anxious, happy, content. Here she comes!Judd and the bridal party – everyone looking so fine.Don’t you just wanna kiss him, too?
Yet another great detail planned & executed by Margaret – a perfect sparkler exit.I didn’t notice the full moon until I started editing photos. Fun shot! Fun group!More Trash The Dress awesomeness. We walked around Loew’s Lake Las Vegas, making pretty photos. Everybody is so friendly out at Lake Las Vegas.
LOVE this! While many of the props, and all of the lighting is mine, the mega cool and personalized backdrop for this Crazy Corner is all Margaret and Judd. I love the look and personalization.

Jolene and Darcy at the verdant JWMarriott

How fortunate am I to be the guy entrusted with recording the countless magic moments that take place on your wedding day?! The excitement of getting ready, the anticipation of first sight, the emotions of the public ceremony – committing for life in front of family and friends forever, the relief of post-ceremony portraits, and the joy and happiness of the toasts and dances and party. What a way to make a living, right?

I love this final portrait of Jolene and Darcy, clearly exhausted yet looking great after their giant day. They had hired me to stay an extra hour and a half because things were running a little late. I’m SO glad they asked me to stay a little as we got some of the best shots, and best emotions of the day, in that final hour.

The beginning of the day started out pretty awesome, too! Check out the beautiful bride coming down the aisle with mom and dad. Radiant!

Elvis just happened to be out at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, and Darcy’s best men kept slipping him cash to let us do some fun shots on his awesome pink 56 Cadillac. Very Vegas baby! We’re lucky enough to have one of Frank Gehry’s extraordinary architectural objects right here in Las Vegas – the Cleveland Clinic, Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. We played all around this spectacular space. Fittingly, both Frank Gehry and my beautiful bridal party are examples of Canada’s finest.
Fixing to get back to the reception for some spirits and dancing and laughter.A quick intimate quiet shot of the lovely Jolene.Just married. Looking very fly in the lush gardens of JW Marriott in Las Vegas.I love the beautiful effects one can get using off-camera lights. And these guys are troopers for standing behind a waterfall for me! I make my couples work! 🙂Scrumptious food all over.Jolene’s mom and the little angel flower girl. Two of the three stars of the day.The three stars. This one knows she’s something special 🙂A quiet moment during the heartfelt & eloquent toast from Jolene’s dad.Jolene’s studly dad.The groom, looking kinda fly. Just married the woman of his dreams. He’s feeling good. One of the final shots of the evening.

Cake to you, gently.
