Sarah and Brian at Green Valley Ranch and Wildhorse

Great family photos are so important. We shot these in a very dark foyer – to stay out of the ninety degree heat & wind. We bring ten speedlites and professional light modifiers so dark rooms are no problem!

Linda and David Elope from Utah to Lush Green Valley Ranch

November 4, 2012 | By | No Comments

Linda & Dave came down from Utah for a hassle-free wedding at the gorgeous, verdant Green Valley Ranch, 15 minutes off the Las Vegas Strip.

Green Valley Ranch is one of my all-time favorite places for weddings of all sizes for so many reasons.

Of course, it’s exceptionally beautiful inside & out, with some of the most luscious landscaping in all of Vegas. While full-service, it is human scale, and very easy for you and your party to get around the property quickly & easily. Most of The Strip hotels are gigantic, taking literally 30 minutes or more to walk from one point to another. The staff of Green Valley Ranch is top-notch and dedicated to you. While it offers gaming like the big hotels on The Strip, it’s just far enough off The Strip to be quiet and not-zany.

It was such a pleasure working with and getting to know Linda & Dave. Congratulations!

Denise & Gordon at Green Valley Ranch

April 12, 2012 | By | No Comments

How cool that I get to hang out with a bunch of tough, real, sweet, fun, loving, salt-of-the-earth Alaskans, the kind who captain fishing boats in the summer, and who do brainy stuff in the winter. I could not have asked for a more relaxed, happy, in-love family of people than these guys. These beautiful photos simply reflect the beautiful vibe that was in the air around them all night long. What an honor to photograph Denise and Gordon and their truly wonderful families. Is Green Valley Ranch one of the most beautiful, grand, elegant places you’ve seen? BTW, that’s Gordon’s brother, also captain of a fishing boat in Alaska, who is officiating their marriage. Benefit of being a captain, right? Actually he had to get a license in Vegas 🙂 but he could marry you at sea without one! 🙂A coin from Great Britain, one of several significant symbols these guys incorporated into their wedding. Mom, an American citizen, was raised in England, and integrated several cherished traditions into her daughter’s wedding.
Double Sistahs!Three generations of gorgeous!A girl could get used to lounging around 🙂 – probably not something one gets to do much in Alaska. The Walk of Anticipation, sistah style. Notice the horseshoe on Denise’s arm? Another wonderful British tradition & detail.Green Valley Ranch is an oasis in the Vegas desert.

Green Valley Ranch Wedding of Bethany and Erik

March 28, 2015 | By | No Comments

With a big smile Erik asked me “am I the shortest groom you’ve ever photographed?” And I said “yea, probably, and you’re also one of the happiest and most grateful grooms I’ve met. With your beautiful wife and son you are a lucky man and you know it.” What a great couple with two wonderful families, as warm and genuine as it gets. What an honor. I can’t believe people pay me to do this!

I have a confession to make.

I love your images. Possibly too much.

Even though I’m known for professionally lit, clean, poppy, magazine style images with no Photoshop Sauce™ I still spend a lot of time making them perfect. Probably too much time. Which means sometimes my clients don’t get their images as fast as they’d like. Here’s how much I love your images.

THE MANY WAYS I SHOW LOVE TO YOUR IMAGES

I deliver your photos to you only after each one has been carefully, lovingly hand-tweaked by the photographer or by a skilled digital artist to look their very best. Like a mom who won’t let the little ones leave the house with shirt un-tucked and a dirty face, I do not release my (your) photos until I’ve given them LIGHT EDITING in Adobe Lightroom. Each photo is hand adjusted in some or all of the following settings before I gently hand my babies over to you:

  • Color Temperature
  • Exposure
  • Contrast
  • Highlights
  • Shadows
  • Whites
  • Blacks
  • Clarity
  • Vibrance
  • Tone Curve
  • Luminance
  • Noise Reduction
  • Vignetting
  • Spot Removal

Sometimes, I even take your images into Photoshop for DEEP EDITING, like removing lighting structures and distractions.

Another confession: I don’t always make perfect images right in camera. Usually I get very close. Sometimes complexions etc require intervention. Sometimes I intentionally shoot with stuff in the frame that I plan to remove later. And sometimes, I kind of blow it and a great image is over- or under-exposed, hidden in my mediocrity and needs to be resurrected in post. But that’s seriously uncommon.

In the examples below I show editing differences that are quite small (the ones I pretty much nailed in-camera), all the way to ones intentionally cluttered or even oddly exposed with the vision of the end-photo in mind. I’m even including images from some of the outstanding Associate Photographers who shoot for STEVEN JOSEPH PHOTOGRAPHY, who also shoot deliberately and with intention, and give each of your babies the TLC they deserve (Toning, Lightroom, and Cropping).  🙂
